volvo ocean race in Rotterdam

Sunday's afternoon and (almost) the whole country is watching television to see the dutch team debut on the world cup. Well, almost, because the whole sailing nation is in and around Rotterdam to see the boats of the volvo ocean race.
The speed of our walk was that of a sunday afternoon. We met friends at the city beach, and somebody ordered a bottle of rose wine. Nice. The boats were at stroll distance. And then there were, the big, fast, powerful machines that crossed the ocean. The guys for whom this kind of things is just a daily thing. The people who know the sea. The ones that know as much as anyone. That much and that little.
We met Mariana, Heleen, Edwin. Later we came across Maurice and Martina. We were at the prize ceremony, celebrating and cheering ABN Amro one, Brasil and Pirates of the Caribbean for their prizes on sunday. Yes! inspiration for all sailors!
Margreet had to go. Tom and Katja were also strolling around and we met! almost the whole crew of Altopana in Rotterdam! (where were the others??)
Today, the VO 70's depart to Gotenburg, Sweden. Good luck!

ballet: Scapino or NDT?
Last night my girlfriend asked if I would like to go to "Twools" a ballet by Scapino Rotterdam. I often say yes, I like modern ballet and I'm always positive for a night's out to theaters and such. Most of the times I'm also upfront about questions and answers. I said that I wouldn't like to go. And then I said something about preferring the normal programmes of Scapino, or preferring DanceWorks Rotterdam and any Nederlands Dans Theater show above Twools.Well, it didn't go that good, the conversation. I think that she just wants to go somewhere with me, and that she does with a lot of enthousiasm. Being together and experiencing things together is important for her. For me is important as well, but the show, the place, the movie or the things we are supposed to do are also a matter of choice. I want to choose, so it seems. I would prefer to know what we are up to.At the end I think that 'Antonio's choice' are happy choices, because it reveals commitment, knowledge, interest, depth or a kind of inner passion. However, sometimes happy choices don't make people happy.Labels: inspiration, modern dance, NDT, Rotterdam
a new bed!

A while ago, I bought a bed. A nice italian design that I saw in a magazine. A bed from
Alias, an italian furniture maker. It is OK.
Then, I was alone. Now I'm with somebody.
The bed is, among other things, too small for us two.
Then we went looking around, in magazines, at showrooms, everywhere. Comparing, discussing, thinking about what we both find nice and practical and what we both do not find beautiful or otherwise. Different views, different tastes, but finally we came to terms.
I remember, many years ago, several friends from school got married in the period of two to three years. I remember those days and all the preparations. The party, the house to live-in together , and first and foremost, the bed. The matrasse matters.
So last saturday we went to see this new italian bed. Found on a magazine, looked up on internet, listed the local dealers, etc. We were serious about it. And coincidentally, we saw this advertisement on the newspaper about this big showroom. So we went and found a showroom model for a good price. A new bed from
Porro, again an italian furniture maker.
We (she) bought the bed. Though it barely fits in our room, but it is a beautiful thing... She said something about someday moving to a bigger place . And I thought that with the bed we were already fine! It seems that there are more plans in the making...
So when will it come? and what should I do with the old one?
Nowadays, the matrasse matters still.
