driving through Europe 2004

Well, I just picked up a photo to test some tricks with photoshop. A selfmade picture of a trip I made in 2004 from Malaga, Spain to Breda, The Netherlands.
It was a wonderful trip with lots of events. I picked up Wibo's car that was at his parent's holiday home in Malaga. He wanted his Saab 90 back in Holland. I thought, I can drive the car back! There were some km's I drove that time, the first day about 1000 km from Malaga to Bilbao.
There I met the family, the nice whole crew over there with cousins, uncles, nephews, aunts and my lovely cousin Katrin. I stayed there three days!
Then I went to Paris, I had to do some shoppings, of course.
In the middle of the the french highway, halfway between Spain and Paris, the car got completely blank. It stopped to work. No electricity. Nothing. I got the insurance conpany on the phone, the assistance insurance, everyone. At the end the car was towed away to a garage, that looked like a car-dump, only to be repaired in 10 minutes. The problem was a broken cable that nobody had seen, and that had caused trouble for at least 2 years. Well, it was expensive, but at the end the problem was solved, and I had a nice story to tell, about me trying to communicate with the towcar driver and mechanic. After 2 hours delay, I could resume my trip to Paris.
After that, I made a series of photos driving through France. This one on this post is one of them.
In Paris, I got the Mandarina Duck toilet bag that is now part of the daily life here in Rotterdam. The favourite travelling trolley was bought before on another trip to Paris (2002?). That's the favourite to go flying or going to the boat. Margreet loves it! Anyway, in Paris I went for the first time to a boutique hotel, later that year I had more of that, but it was nice to sleep at hotel dubourg... By councidence I was in Paris on the first monday of january when the shops do their season's clearance sale. An amazing experience, seen all the people shopping so intensively...
After a couple of days I had to go back to the Netherlands, so the last day, a made the final trip from Paris to Breda, 5 hours, nice and relax. The car was keeping it, but deep inside it was dying. A year later it was retired from circulation, and yes, brought to the dump. On that last trip I did stop at the last french petrol station, to have a short break, and for my last change of yoghurt french style. Great!
Antonio's Choice: to drive someone else's car for 2300 kms (just after new year's day), to visit relatives in Bilbao, a boutique hotel, mandarina duck, shopping at Muji, french yoghurt...
