Last weekend we took a flash trip to London. Margreet, Gaizka and me. This time we took the train. We went down the tunnel with the Eurostar train!
In London, we met Hugo D'Enjoy, his wife Valerie and their daugther Isabella. On saturday evening we were already strolling through Portobello Road. It was great to walk around talking with friends, looking around, tasting the flair of Notting Hill and Portobello.
Hugo is doing alright. Working for Foster and Partners and making his living in the big city. We catch up with our stories and experiences and most of all we chatted about those little kids that have brought so many changes; Isabella for them, Gaizka for us.
On sunday we went to Tate Modern and visited a part of the main collection called "Poetry and Dreams". It seems controversial, to arrange the pieces on a thematic way, but it went okay for us. Gaizka did have fun the whole hour. Later on we took the bus (11?) from St. Paul to King's Road, to look around and do a little shopping. (Almost) Dutch people that we are, we didn't buy that much! It was fun. In the evening we paid a (surprise?) visit to Hugo at his house. We were very curious about his place, the domestic life of a venezuelan londoner and we wanted to open the possibility for more visits between Rotterdam and London. It was a very nice evening as we saw how Hugo and Valerie are creating a wonderful space for them and Isabella. An architect's home.
On monday we had planned to depart in the afternoon, so we had almost one extra day. We went to have breakfast at "Inn the Park" a nice restaurant pavillion at St. James park. After all we were following our Wallpaper leads. Later on we did minimal shopping at Selfridge's at the very busy Oxford Street.
Travelling with Gaizka means adjusting the programme. A double museum programme is no longer possible, or half a day inmersing in a good exhibition. Nightlife? Not yet I guess, but we managed to have dinner in a posh italian restaurant in Portobello, on saturday evening, with child!
We will be back...
